Junction Bridge Design and Financing
The ZGF conceptual design for the Junction Bridge contains alterations and additions that change its use and function without compromising its historic profile. Pedestrian improvements will create places on the bridge to stage events and provide overlooks to the Arkansas River and the two cities. The bridge’s lift span will be raised and repaired. Visually interesting elevators and stairs will provide access between the lift span and the lower approach spans. Along the lower approach spans, the overlooks and elevator areas will provide places for people to sit and enjoy dramatic views of the bridge and the two cities.
Funds required for bridge improvements and access to the bridge. Estimated Costs: $4.75 million
Funds committed to date for bridge improvements. Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department grant - $1 million and the Cities of North Little Rock, Little Rock and Pulaski County - $200,000
Operating Costs. The Bridge Facilities Board has prepared a pro forma operating budget for the completed bridge. The two cities and the county have entered into an interlocal agreement to share equally the operating costs of the bridge.
